The 3 main objectives for teaching art with this manual is to help students:

  1. Appreciate all God’s creations
  2. Learn to really observe
  3. Practice and develop individual creativity

Students will expand these three objectives as they learn to draw and paint with various mediums, beginning with pencil and progressing to water colors, oils, and chalk.

Words Project:  In 1828, Noah Webster (a devout Christian) produced an American Dictionary of the English Language. That very year, the Prophet Joseph Smith began translating the Book of Mormon. Webster’s 1828 Dictionary enables a reader to better understand the scriptures by discovering the correct definitions of the words Joseph Smith used when revealing the Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants.

Project: Select a chapter from the Book of Mormon or Doctrine and Covenants. Look up each word (except sight words) and if studying the definition changes your understanding and interpretation of the verse, have a team member link the word to the Joseph Smith Foundation Webster’s 1828 Dictionary world wide project. Learning the words of Joseph Smith is life changing as hundreds of families are getting involved in this world wide project to create a one of a kind study guide.

Project Leaders:  Julie and Sera Smith / Ages 12+ / Thursdays 12:45
